What Do Diarrhea And Abdominal Cramps After A Dental Procedure Indicate?

My 7 year old daughter had a dental procedure 5 days ago under general anesthesia. She had several cavities filled and some of her teeth capped. The next day, she started having diarrhea. Mostly painless but a few tummy cramps on and off too. It s been 4 days since the onset and she is still having diarrhea. Is it C Diff? Something else? They didn t send her home with any antibiotics but I don t know if they gave her some before her procedure or some other medication that could be the culprit. She s had a few solid bowel movements but most have been loose.

I have reviewed your query and here are my thoughts.

Loose stool or diarrhea after any dental procedure might not have been related.
This can be gastroenteritis as such which needs to be clinically evaluated by a Pediatrician.
If this is bacteria as would be proved by blood and stool test an antibiotic suitable for intestinal infection can helps her cure. Also needed is probiotics.
If this is viral then it will take time as body alone heals this.
Keep her well hydrated as children go into dehydration faster than the adults.
Also watch for the foods and beverages and stop any if causing her such problems.
C. diff can be diagnosed by tests only and need Metronidazole in addition.
