What Do Brown Bands On The Thumbs Indicate?

Hi , i have a longitudinal brown band in both thumbs , i think i already have this since I was a child , and since I m afraid of doctor I never had any consultation till I work after college , i thought it is due to some cardio problems but I was diagnosed with mild mvp and the doctor said it has nothing to do with it. After several years , the nails bothered me because I always felt ashamed because of this. Perhaps i already have this for 19 years if i remember correctly. Do you think this is something serious? I hope it s benign, and could it possibly become normal in color? Because this really affects my self-esteem.

Hi,

By what you say I feel that you are having longitudinal melanonychia which is a normal phenomenon in the general population.

But please do remember that skin conditions are always best diagnosed and treated after seeing them directly so I would recommend that you upload some images here and get back to us, please.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
