What Do Black Spots Around A Skin Tag Removal Site Indicate?

I had skin tags removed by my family doctor. He froze with a needle then cut them off with a scalpel and then cauterized them. They are sore and very irritated and there are black spots around them. Is this normal ?What is the best things to do to aid the healing process? Will they leave a scar?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

The black spots around the removal site of the skin tags can be due to small hemorrhages in the area and are nothing to worry as long as they don't last more then 1-2 weeks. If you notice they are lasting longer or they are worsening you will need to see your doctor again.
The risk for scaring depends on the depth of the cauterization that the doctor did but generally cauterization in the case of skin tags is superficial and does not cause scaring.
The healing process is natural and is no need for special treatments to speed it.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care
