General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi,

Noted your history of pneumothorax in past for which tubes were in to treat and then developed pain in upper trapezium area, physical therapy done, MRI may be done.
The commonest reasons can be one of the following:
- Spasm of trapezium muscle.
- Fibromyalgia.
- Nerve entrapment syndrome.
- May not really be related to Pneumothorax as you might have developed as a secondary to it.
I would advise you the following:
- Consult an Orthopaedic Surgeon for proper clinical examination like local tenderness, knot formation, spasm.
- Investigations as advised.
- Proper muscle relaxants, anti-inflammatory with painkiller properties.
- Local injections if fibromyalgia is present.
- Rest to the muscles by putting the arm in a sling.
- Oral steroids if indicated.
- Avoid stress and anxiety as these are the instigating or enhancing factors.
- avoid any physical activity that will give stress to the muscle.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. T. Chandrakant, ENT & General Surgeon
