Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I had two 9 second heart pauses during minor surgery and then a subsequent 9 second heart pause in the recovery room. Each time, my heart started up on its own. I am female, physically fit, late 50 s, and waiting for a CAT scan. I did a 24 holter test and a bunch of blood tests of which I am assuming showed nothing as nobody has said anything. Nobody is going to tell me anything further until I get the scan which is possibly months away. Do I need to be worried?
It could be related to the medicine you received during surgery. Pauses of 9 seconds is alot, and you should be examined for cardiac arrythmias, possibly with a 7-day Holter. If you experience symptoms, e.g. dizziness or fainting, you should go to the ER asap.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,
Dr Anders Mark Christensen, General Surgeon
