What Could Cause Severe Pain In A 75-year-old When Moving From A Sleeping Or Sitting Position After A Fall?
i am a 75 year old man, I took a hard fall today which has left me with severe pain on the left side of my back as long as I remain Mobile I am relatively pain free except for light pain when I breath. If I stand straight I am ok but if I lean forward or to the side the pain is excruciating. Moving from a lying or sitting position is extremely painful
Very likely you have hurt some muscles that are used during the movements that you explain (bending forward or from lying to sitting position) and this is the reason you get bad pain with those movements. The fact that you are fine when you don't do those movements suggests that very likely it is not a bone fracture or joint problem.
You will need to take paracetamol and ibuprofen to help with pain and also put local compresses in the area that is most painful (you can try warm compresses to relax the muscles). If no improvement in the next few days or you notice any worsening please see your doctor.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
