What Could Cause Aspirating Food While On G Tube For Blockage Of Small Intestine?

My father is 91 and had a g tube placed due to a blockage of his small intestine. 3 months later and he is still aspirating any food he ingests. He never had any prior problems with eating. We want a second opinion of what could be causing him to be aspirating everything. What could this be? damage to his epiglottis? Who would we go to a gastroenterlolgist or an ENT?

Hello,
I can understand your concern for your father's health.
1) You must consult gastroenterologist.
2) repeated aspiration while patient on G-tube indicate either movement of stomach become slow or quantity of feeding given through G-tube is high.
3) In both these conditions, stomach becomes distended due to presence of large amount of residual food.
4) As a precaution you must give small amount of feed but multiple times. Prokinetic medication (Ganaton) may help to improve movement of stomach.

Hope I answered your query. If you have any further doubts, i would be happy to help you.
Have a nice day!
