What Could Borderline Atrial Enlargement In EKG Suggest?
I was diagnosed many years ago with mitral valve prolapse...no problems since then. Now 60 years old, mildly over weight, good cholesterol. Today I received message that my EKG indicated borderline left atrial enlargement. Could this be from the mitral valve problem?
Hello welcome to HCM. I have read your question and understand your your concerns.
Most important thing is ecg findings are not specific so kindly go for 2d echo confirmation regarding exact size of left atrium. It will also give idea regarding prolapse of valve.
Left atrial enlargement is a benign abnormality, usually we found in patients secondary to hypertension. So kindly regularly check your blood pressure.
In Mitral valve prolapse unless some blood is not flowing back it's unusual to found left atrial enlargement. So kindly ask your doctor regarding grade of prolapse and regurgitation.
Don't worry regarding left atrial enlargement as it is found in many patients and last for many years without any complications.
Kindly follow my advice and go for echo study for confirmation. Thank you Have a nice day.
