What Could A Whitish Patch On Tongue After Having An Ulcer Indicate?
Hi there, I had an ulcer on the side of my tonugue, white ish / 3mm, after 3 - 4 weeks it's basically reduced and disapeared but what remains is a slight whitish patch that is mostly transparent but wider than the original ulcer (maybe say about 30% brighter than the surrounding tongue.) After a week and a half since observing the patch (following the 3 - 4 weeks of the ulcer healing) this patch seems to be getting more transparent but seems to be healing so slowly that it's hard to be sure. Under what circumstances should I be wary or?
As per your query it seems that you had an Apthous ulcer or a canker sore and a canker sore has a thin film of mucosa over it known as Pseudomembrane and as the ulcer has healed the transparent layer that you can observe is nothing but the thin transparent pseudomembrane and you need not to worry as it will gradually gets sloughed off from the tongue leaving an underlying healthy mucosal surface of tongue.. You should not bite or try to remove it as it will gradually be removed on its own..
Hope this information helps..
Thanks and regards.. Dr.Honey Nandwani Arora.
