Hi, i have a cough. my coughing usually results in gagging and i find myself trying to resist throwing up. the cough has been around for a few months now. i do not have a sore throat or anything, but i do get some acid relief pills because they seem to help.

Hi
Chronic cough especially nocturnal is a feature of chronic laryngo pharyngeal reflux. Your history of relief with acid suppressing drugs further supports this diagnosis.
U need
1) dietary modifications: avoid spicy, smoked, preserved food, chocolate, coffee, tea etc
2)life style modifications: avoid smoking and alcohol. Don't drink water in between meals. Avoid lying down immediately after food
3) drugs: antacids, H2 blockers(ranitidine/famotidine) and proton pump inhibitors (pantoprazole/ rabiprazole)along with prokinetics ( levosulpiride)

Thank you
