What Causes Yellowish Discoloration Of The Sclera And Mild Right-sided Body Pain?

My 18 year old son is a senior in high school. He has had yellow in the whites of his eyes since middle school. It has gotten worse ove the past 4-7 months. He says about 2-3 weeks ago he started having mildright sided pain, and change in BM--a little darker and a little looser (more like piles). His father has Gilbert syndrome. He is worried it is something bad I plan on getting him in to an internal med or his PCP ( he has seen once). Do I need to get him in right away?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi and thank you so much for this query.

I am so sorry to hear about this jaundice. There is really no need for immediate review. Plan and take him in at your earliest convenience. Gilberts syndrome is a possibility but unlikely at this point.

I hope this helps. I wish you well. Feel free to ask for more information and clarifications if need be. Above all, thanks for using our services.
