What Causes Yellow Foul Smelling Stool?

My seven year old has been dealing with constipation since he was born. However, this past week he has had to use the bathroom urgently and his stools have been yellow, fool smelling, and soft looking. We have an appointment in two weeks, but wanted to know if he needed to be seen earlier?
