What Causes White Spots On Tongue?

About twice a year I get white spots on my tongue, the side of my cheeks and about 10 days later they disappear. My tongue is feels tingley and there is extra saliva in my mouth. I had a biopsy of one of these white spots on my tongue and the results were negative. Do I have too much acid or something in my body?

Hi..
Thanks for the query..

White spots on tongue and cheek that occur twice an year and cause tingling sensation over the tongue along with excessive salivation can be probably due to two most common causes:
1. Apthous ulcers or Canker sores that can occur due to causes like Vitamin B12 deficiency, iron deficiency, acid reflux etc..
2, Cold sores caused be Herpes Simplex Virus 1 infection..

If it follows a specific pattern of occurrence then it can be probably due to viral infection..

Next time when you get the sores then you should consult an Oral Physician and get evaluated and an Oral swab culture can help in diagnosis and treatment can be done accordingly..

In case of apthous ulcers a long course of Vitamin B complex supplement daily should be advised..

In case of cold sores antiviral medications like oral and topical Acyclovir can be advised..

Hope this helps..

Regards.
