What Causes White Ear Discharge While On Zyrtec?

My son had tubed placed in his ears 3 years ago. One ear still has a tube somewhere in there hanging out. I ve noticed him digging lately in that ear. I looked with a light and the ear scoop has a white paste substance similar to ear wax but white. What is it? Should I be taking him to the doctor? He has had a cough and been on zyrtec for allergies for 3 weeks.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

White ear discharge usually is related to purulent discharge due to an infection. An examination with the othoscope is needed to confirm the diagnosis and take proper treatment with antibiotics. Meanwhile, you can use ear drops with antibacterial properties.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
