What Causes Wheezing?

My husband has been wheezing off and on for a couple of weeks. We assumed allergies. It gets better and then occasionally he will swallow, choke a bit, and start wheezing again. Then he has the wheezing for a few days. He does not have asthma but will wheeze occasionally when allergies are bad.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Wheezing happens when the airways are tightened, blocked, or inflamed, making a person's breathing sound like whistling or squeaking.

Common causes include cold, asthma, allergies, or more serious conditions, such as chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. I suggest consulting with allergologist.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr. Blerina Pasho, General & Family Physician
