What Causes Weight Gain While On Abilify?

Hi my 11 year old son started taking latuda 60 mg after many years being on abilify. The problem with abilify is that it caused him great weight gain through the years,, his dr switched to latuda for 3 weeks or so but I feel he is relatively calm but when something sets him off he totally loses it. He can t keep himself together to reel it in. He goes and calms himself down and is ok after but I never seen him get so quick tempered like this before. Is this normal or is a side effect that might pass? Thank you

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

It can take up to 6 to 8 weeks for Latuda to take complete effect. So, please be advised to wait for a few more weeks and see if his symptoms resolve completely. If not follow up with his treating physician.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Lekshmi Rita Venugopal, General & Family Physician
