What Causes Weakness On The Hands?

My friend is a 51 yr old male. For months he complains of intermittent feelings of weakness, uneasiness, flushing, hands can get cold. Doctor said it was most likely anxiety. Recently having discomfort just below left rib cage. Feels bloated and appetite is lower than usual. He drank alcohol heavily in his youth and consistently throughout life. He now continues to drink daily, red wine. Some days one to two glasses, others a bottle and a half.
