What Causes Weakness In The Arm And Leg?

I am right-handed male, 58, with lack of strength in right arm above shoulder height, and have weakness in right leg. I ve been diagnosed with slight arthritis from some degradation between L3 and L4 in spine. Is the degradation and/or arthritis root cause for my lack of strength? If so, why is this only happening only to my right side, and not my left?

Hello Dear

Thanks for writing to HCM\

Your right leg may have a relation with degenrative changes in lumbar region as nerve roots supplying the legs pass through inter disc spaces. The root may be compressed and hence causing weakness on right side in leg. It is not cumpulsory that weakness shall be felt in both legs as there may be compression on one side only.
An MRI shall confirm the diagnosis.
Regarding your problem of weakness in right arm above shoulder hieght, it can be due a problem with your shoulder, a frozen shoulder joint.
You may a some weakness in nerves which can result in these symptoms.
I would suggest you take a nerve conduction test of both arm and leg and also do a MRI of back which shall confirm the diagnosis.

You need to consult a neurologist for better care

Hope that Helps

Thanks
