What Causes Weakness In Left Arm And Hand Tremors?

Hi Dr. Rynne, Recently I started noticing weakness in my left arm. My grip is a little weaker, and my hand shakes when I squeeze something. My left hand also falls asleep and experiences pins and needles often when I lay on it in certain position. Interestingly, only half of my arm experiences this, the side of my pinky and ring finger (I think this is the ulnar nerve side). I have an appointment with my doctor soon but I am a bit of a hypochondriac and am wondering if this is a simple nerve entrapment or if it could be something more serious. Thank you!

Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern. As per your query you have weakness in left arm and hand tremors. Well there can be many reasons for symptoms you mention in query like essential tremor is the most common type of movement disorder , parkinsonian tremor , dystonic tremor , cerebellar tremor , psychogenic tremor or orthostatic tremor. I would suggest you to consult neurologist for proper examination . Doctor may order CT scan , MRi of brain , nerve conduction test along with taking history . Doctor may prescribe muscle relaxant along with anti convulsant or anti epileptic drug . For now do light stretching exercises and do mind relaxing exercises like yoga and meditation .
