What Causes Watery Diarrhea And Foul Smell In Nose Post Withdrawal From Oxycodone?

I was at a medical rehab facility for 3 weeks after total knee replacement. After being discharged and stopping oxycodone and 3 different stool softeners, I had very watery diarrhea. Stool sample given to hospital came back negative for c.diff. A week later and taking Imodium -- still having diarrhea. Everything smells and tastes like the cat food that I give my cats -- chicken/turkey in gravy -- ugh. Is this just because of too many stool softeners and will end?

Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern. As per your query you have symptoms of watery diarrhea and foul smell in nose post withdrawal from Oxycodone which means you are suffering from condition known as chronic sinusitis that is why you have bad breath in your nose . Watery diarrhea can be due to gastritis or infection of digestive system. Side effects of certain medicine can also cause bad smell . I would suggest you to take nasal decongestant sprays, Antihistamines and antibiotic combination as infection is present. Co amoxiclav is best treatment option. You should take steam inhalation. Avoid intake of outside food. Visit ENT specialist once and get it examined. Go for paranasal sinus X ray and get puncture and drainage of sinus if required. Doctor may also refer you to gastroenterologist for diarrhea , who may prescribe antibiotics along with lopramide.. Do warm saline gargles and keep yourself hydrated by drinking lot of water.

Hope your concern has been resolved.

Best Wishes,
