What Causes Vomiting Up Of Blood In Children?

My 8 year old son has vomited three times today. No fever, no pain. The first time we assumed he ate too much breakfast. The other 2 times, we thought were maybe car sickness. However, the third time there was blood in his vomit. Not just redish colored spit, it was blood. He fell asleep after that, and slept until we got home (about 25 min.) he is now fine. Still no fever, he says hes not in pain, and he is acting fine. Should we go to the ER? What may have caused this??

hi
thank you for asking your concern and welcome to hcm. i would like to know whether previous two vomiting were quite forceful if is then this may happen in forceful kind of vomiting. due to that force there may be some tearing of pharynx or lower esophagus may occur which results in vomiting of blood. most of the time this is self limiting. if blood is fresh red then there is no need to worry but blood is somewhat dark then you have to be careful. you need to check the color of stool also if it is black then you need to consult doctor. if second episode of blood vomiting then also you need to go to ER. these are few points that you should be vigilant for and if no such episode then you can give him some sips of cold water to constrict the vessels if torn.
if you feel any doubt please ask
regards
