What Causes Vomiting Followed By Popping And Pain In Ear?

Hi I have been vomiting for the past few days and the last time I did so, I felt my left inner ear pop, which I thought was no big deal. However, now, about 4 hours later, I have a terrible pain in my left inner ear (so strong it s preventing me from sleeping). I can t take any medication that requires me to swallow it and don t have any chewable or dissolvable pain killers. Thanks ps: other than the fact that my ear popped during vomiting, they are not related (I.e. Infection) pps: this particular emulsion was the only one I ve had that went through my nose as well

Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..

As per your complain it seems that popping of the ear followed by severe pain that has occurred during a vigorous bout of vomiting can be most probably due to perforation of the eardrum during sudden change in pressure around the eardrum during vomiting..
It can lead to severe pain and discomfort and there might even be some loss of hearing..

I would suggest you to consult an ENT expert and get evaluated and a thorough clinical evaluation and investigations like x ray, MRI scan, otoscopy etc can help in diagnosis and treatment can be done accordingly..

In case of perforation in eardrum you can be advised a course of antibiotics, anti inflammatory painkiller like Ibuprofen, Naproxen etc along with nasal decongestants..

As of now if pain is severe and you are not able to sleep due to pain you should consult an Emergency room and they can advise you an injection of painkiller as well as give you analgesic supposotries to relieve pain..

Hope this information helps..

Thanks and regards.
