What Causes Vomiting And Stomach Cramps?

My granddaughter has been sick for over a week now. Throwing up - mostly late in the day. She has been to ER and gotten fluids. She was admitted to hospital and stayed 2 days. All tests are coming back fine. No appendicitis. She was released from hospital this morning and seemed fine. But, now, she s throwing up again and has stomach cramps. Drs. have said it must be viral. Can a virus last this long. She s 7 and in good health, otherwise.

Hi,

As per your query, your granddaughter has symptoms of vomiting and stomach cramps which seems to be due to persistence of viral infection leading to gastroenteritis and electrolyte imbalance in the body.

Need not to worry at all. I would suggest you ensure you are taking adequate hydration, oral intake and replenishing water to avoid salt losses. Give child proper rest. You should avoid intake of outside food, such as hot, sharp and excessive spicy food and avoid intake of cold carbonated beverages. Visit gastroenterologist once and get it examined. You should go for complete examination and start treatment after that if still symptoms keep on persisting.

Hope your concern has been resolved.

General & Family Physician Dr. AJEET SINGH's  Response
Hi,

Abdominal infection is quite common in this age. Keep her on soft and bland diet. Give bendy 1 hs for deworming. Consult a pediatric gastroenterologist for advance tests to rule out lactose intolerance and coeliac.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Ajeet Singh,
