My fiancé was eating dinner when he took a drink of his milk he instantly began to vomit. And later felt like food went down the wrong pipe. Possibly to his lungs he's breathing fine. But is in some pain I don't want it to lead to pneumonia or possibly aspiration !? What should we do!? He was Just in the emergency room last night (for kidney pain). So we really don't want to go back again tonight. Please help thank you

Hello,

Thank you for asking at HCM.

I went through your history and would like to make suggestions for your fiance as follows:

1. If such thing has happened only once, you need to to worry at all. Food going into wrong pipe (respiratory tract) can happen if a liquid has been drunk in hurry. It is normal to have coughing and sometimes vomiting the food that went wrong.

2. However, if he has repeated episodes of such complaints, I would think possibility of GERD. In that case, I would suggest him to take an antacid like pantoprazole or omeprazole for at least 6 weeks before taking meals and to avoid heavy, spicy meals.

3. Kidney pain is usually not related to GERD, so it might be a different a different thing. I would suggest you to consult a physician who will ask details of his pain and also will examine him, may suggest some investigations to identify the cause of kidney pain.

Hope above suggestions will be helpful to you.

Should you have any further query, please feel free to ask at HCM.

Wish your fiance the best of the health ahead.

Thank you & Regards.
