What Causes Vomiting Along With Abdominal Pain And Cramping?

Hi My mother became ill on Jan 8th. Vomiting and stomach cramps. She is 82 yrs old, very healthy. Only takes 1 pill for blood pressure. Took her to the hospital. They said she had a intestinal blockage after a CT Scan and an ex-ray. Put her in the hospital with a tube down her nose to the stomach to pump out and IV for fluid. She had a barium ex-ray (?). Another Regular ex-ray of her stomach they sent her home, She was eating soft foods and had stopped vomiting. We were home 2 days - She started eating more solid foods. Same symptoms back again. Vomiting is always several hours after she eats. Back to the hospital. This time an upper GI and an ultrasound. Found small lesions on her esophagus and a small Hyadel (sp)Hernia. Stayed three days. Put on Soft foods. Came home. Again same symptoms - Dr. ordered a Hayden Scan (Nuclear) to check the Gallbladder. Decided that the gallbladder was not functioning properly. Gallbladder was removed Thursday a week ago. Gave her a nausea pill that lays on your tongue and Pepcid. They gave her instructions she could eat whatever she wanted. The Nurse advised not to eat anything heavy for a few days. She ate soft foods for 2 days and then solid foods. Again she has started vomiting again. Her stomach is also cramping and hurts all the way to her back. Dr. has changed the nausea med to fenegren and today told her to get Align for the stomach cramping. We are at the end of the rope. After all of the testing and surgery we feel like we are at square one. Even the Dr. says they do not understand.

Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern. As per your query you have symptoms of vomiting along with abdominal pain and cramping . Well the symptoms you mention in query can occur due to many reasons like food poisoning , food allergy , infection of digestive system , gas , acid reflux , stomach flu or colic . Need not to worry. You should take oral rehydration solution as well. I would suggest you to sips of water or other clear fluids on a very frequent basis. You should avoid solid foods for a few hours try small amounts of mild foods such as rice, applesauce and do not take foods or drinks caffeine , carbonated beverages , citrus and dairy products. If condition doesn't get better then consult gastroenterologist for proper examination and get complete examination done. Doctor may prescribe antiemetic drug , antibiotics ,analgesic and antacid . Take ibuprofen or acetaminophen for pain . Doctor may also order ultrasound for gallbladder .

Hope your concern has been resolved.
