Hi,I am Dr. Subhankar Chakraborty (Gastroenterologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have a tendency to puke after i eat. whether it be drinking a lot of water or simply eating an entire meal - i puke about 10-15 minutes later. This happens to my mum as well - is this a genetic disease? My eating habits are pretty average - i don't eat spicy food; drink adequate amounts of water and usually exercise for an hour every other day. I'm 16 years old, with a height of 5"4 and my current weight is 55kg. I also lost a lot of weight over the past few years, but regained some of it back. Could you please help me?
Hi. Thanks for your query. Noted the history and understood your concerns. With the history of puking after food I can think about lower esophageal sphincter loosening as the commonest cause. I would advise you and your Mother the following in such a situation: Get upper GI Endoscopy. Barium swallow study along with barium meal for stomach and follow-through. A trial with a PPI like Pantoprazole, motility regulator like Domperidone or Metoclopramide may help you and your Mother. Further management will depend upon the findings of the Endoscopy and Barium studies.
