What Causes Vomiting After Draining An Abscess?

My son, 27, has been vomiting for 6 days. I finally got him to go to the Dr. today. The Dr. says that it s related to an abscess he had drained about a month ago and gave him Bactrim. But James (son) can t remember what exactly the Dr. called it. An infection of some sort, he thinks. Any ideas? I just want to do a little reading about it. Thanks!

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello and welcome to HCM.
I have gone through your query and understand your concern.
You have not mentioned the site of abscess.

Vomiting now has nothing to do with abscess in past 1 month.
Vomiting can be because of any peritonsillar abscess if present now.Does your child suffer from sore throat and difficulty in swallowing?
It can be treated with antibiotics course for 7-10 days.
Incision and drainage may be required if symptoms are persisting or recurring.
Other causes of vomiting can be gastro oesophageal reflux/food poisoning .
May I know if other symptoms like headache, fever are present. If present, immediate consultation to paediatrician and certain investigations will be required.

Hope I answered your query.
Thanks and regards.
