What Causes Vaginal Spotting After Using Clindamycin Cream?

I was told i had bacterial vaginosis and prescribed clindamycin cream to insert for 5 days. I had sex (using a condom) on day 3 of the treatment, and now day 5 i have light vaginal spotting... is this because of the cream, or was having sex bad to do while on the cream?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Vaginal infections can cause irritation of the vaginal area and there may also be irritation of the cervical area as well. The irritation of these surfaces can be associated with bleeding. It would be best to wait until the completion of the course of medication. If you complete the course and still have symptoms, then you may need to be retreated.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Michelle Gibson James
