I had total hyst dec 9 laparoscopic & vaginally. Dec 24 I started bleeding & passed out at ER door with bp of 70/40. I was admitted, had vaginal packing x 2 by resident dr. Bleeding had stopped. I had received 1 unit of blood via rapid infusion in the ER , ct abd pelvis was normal & H&h was at the low end of normal so I went home Christmas Day. After 3 hours at home I started bleeding again & rushed back to ER which is an hour from my home. Bleeding was not as bad, labs were low normal & resident wanted to send me home. My dr wasn t on call & I didn t have his personal number. I asked repeatedly for my dr to be called but was refused. My husband voiced his concern regarding the previous day & how far away we lived so the resident reluctantly admitted me again. At 3 am i started bleeding worse than ever. My nurse kept calling the resident who was with ob pts as I was on labor & delivery floor. Resident finally came to my room & explained that all of the blood & huge clots that were bubbling over the top of my undergarments, soaking the bed sheets, covering the floor & in the toilet was not all blood but fluid with a little blood mixed in. She kept saying that I wasn t nauseated or light headed & it wasn t all blood. I told her I didn t want to wait until I was feeling like that. Within 2 minutes, I was feeling like that. My bp was 60/30, I passed out again. Finally an ob dr came to my room & told the resident to go get more blood & they rushed me to or. A partner of my dr came in as this ob dr was about to cut me from crest to crest to find the bleeding. My dr s partner stopped her. She then took all stitches out & restitched me. I was given a total of 6 units of blood & recovered in icu with a jugular iv, an arterial line & another venous in my arm. The resident had told the nurse to give me pain mess & insert foley to keep me in bed which I refused. My dr released me the next day. I spotted until my appt with him the next wk when he examined me & painfully popped a stitch. Bleeding continued to next day & I became light jpheaded & nauseated. I started texting him early am since I now had his cell number. I eventually ended up in his office & back to surgery for the 3rd time in 4 wks for vaginal cuff tear. I ve followed my dr s orders throughout my recovery. I haven t lifted anything & I ve been completely inactive. I have had nothing in my vagina, including tampons & intercourse. My dr has no explanation for any of my experiences. I agree with him that my hospital experience with the resident was under reaction & then overreaction. But, is this normal in any way & why is my vaginal cuff tearing & why are my stitches popping? i am still spotting but it seems to be decreasing. I did have a small cough a few days before the Christmas Eve incident. I ve been a ct scan tech for 28 yrs so I understand that things can happen & every pt is different & it s not necessarily anyone s fault.
