Hi, I am just over 6 weeks pregnant and am experiencing some bleeding. It is not heavy bleeding but it is becoming more persistant as time is going on and I am just wondering if things are ok? I was seen by my Dr on Friday and she did a vaginal ultrasound and said the pregnancy was there and that she did see the tiny little heartbeat. They checked my blood pressure and said it was perfect. I do not have any pain or cramping but am worried about the bleeding. Any suggestions?

General & Family Physician, Dr. Vasudha's Response
Hi, I understand your concern. There are many causes of bleeding in early weeks of pregnancy like-hormonal deficiency/placenta previa/ectopic pregnancy/blighted ovum/threatened abortion. But looking at the findings you mention- The bleeding at 6 weeks of pregnancy, with USG showing normal growth/normal blood pressure seems to be due to hormonal deficiency. You should take- Complete bed rest, light nutritive diet, avoid physical & psychological stress/avoid sex. supplementation of hormone Progesteron in Injectable form ( Inj. Proluton depot 250 mg intramuscular weekly) with consultation of your doctor.Usually it is advised till 14 to 16 weeks of pregnancy( 3.5 months) Be careful about genital hygiene/avoid infection/treat infection if any. Have regular follow up by gynecologist with repeat USG as & when advised. Thanks.
