What Causes Urine Odor?

I am a 47 year old woman and urine smells very strongly like butane or betadine or medicinal. It is embarrassing. I drink lots of water and cranberry juice. Problem has been ongoing for about a month now. I am not aware of any symptoms of a bladder infection.

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

There are many reasons for the particular odor: concentrated urine in dehydrated stage, ingestion of certain food elements, multivitamins, B complex oral ingestion, asymptomatic infections or sterile pyuria, pH altering mechanisms for urine, alcoholism and certain abuse substances, and others.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel
