What Causes Urinary Urge Incontinence While On Tamsulosin?

My husband currently takes Tamsulosin 0.4 mg cap once daily, 1/2 hour after lunch. His symptoms have increased within the last 2 weeks. Now feeling the constant urge to urinate even though he evacuates throughout the day and night. Can this current dosage be increased to relieve these worsening symptoms and what dosage should he then start taking? Thank you.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

The dose can be increased to a maximum of 0.8mg in a day. However, I would recommend you to go to a surgeon for urine analysis, urine culture, PSA, ultrasonography, and RFT before you increase the dose.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Purnima Sharma
