What Causes Urinary Incontinence Shortly After Waking Up?

In the last year or so, I often experience urinary incontinence shortly after waking up. For reasons that may not hold up medically, I associate this incontinence with lower back problems. Am I mistaken in assuming that incontinence and back problems are related?

Hello,

Urinary incontinence and back problems may be related. This is especially the case if you have a back condition that is causing the cauda equina syndrome (pressing on the nerve roots that come out of the lower spine).

You may need a urinalysis and urine culture and abdominal ultrasound first to rule out urinary causes of your incontinence. If these tests come out normal an MRI examination of the lower back and spine may be indicated to rule out spinal stenosis and cauda equina.
