What Causes Upper Stomach Pain?
The last month I have been having terrible upper stomach pain. Hits mostly at night, I sometimes have to get up and pace the floor. I am not sure what to do. I fill like there is a hole right above my rib cage. It is terrible pain. I am 58 years old, female, do smoke some, not everyday. Divorced.

From history it seems that you might be having hyper acidity precipitating during night when your stomach is empty and acid secretion is continued.
Take a glass of water or milk at that time.
Take Omeprazole medicine for few days.
Avoid fried, chilies and junk food.
Another possibility is as this problem of having severe pain occurs during night might be due to some cardiac problem like coronary pain.
Go for EKG to rule out any heart problem.
Ok and take care.
