Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Twitching Sensation On Right Elbow After Drawing Blood?
i had my blood drawn last night on my right arm, but not directly in the center as usual. instead blood was drawn from the very edge of the right side of that arm, so far off the edge that it was almost the front side of my forearm. I ve never gotten my blood drawn from that vein before and found it pretty strange. It also hurt when the needle went in (it usually doesnt hurt) but the pain wasn t severe at all. This morning i woke up with twitching in the right elbow area, the twitching is pretty fast and spastic but sometimes it slows down. You can t really see it either. I can only feel it. Doesn t feel like a muscle. Could the two be connected? If so, what s going on and why?
* As per my clinical experience, the twitching sensation on elbow after drawing of blood indicates possible thrombophlebitis issue most likely.
* My guidelines at present
- local application of ice over the vein area
- use hirudoid or thrombophobe ointment gentle massage over the vein puncture site from center to periphery
- take analgesic medicine as ibuprofen or diclofenac after meals with antacid tablet or syrup
* Follow up recommended after 24 hours or early as per the need.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel
