What Causes Tiny Zit Like Bump On Lip?

hi, I noticed a tiny zit like bump on my lip about a year ago. I brushed it off as being a blimish. But recently I noticed its turned a purple color, and today for the first time I was brushing my teeth I went to rence and I spit out blood. I thought it was a lot to just be from brushing. Then when I looked into the mirror I saw that the tiny spot on my lip was bleeding furriously. I was suprised and imeddiatly grabbed a papper towel. The strangest thing of all was that it soaked the towel nearly completely and was quit hard to get to stop bleeding, and its a spot only the size of a zit. It just quit bleeding for the second time after showering. This is strange and I'm quite concerned. Any ideas what this could be?

Hi Dear ,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern.

Thanks for your concern . The symptoms you mention in query are pointing towards a condition known as pyogenic granuloma . It usually occur after minor injury or insect bite. It usually bleed due to large number of blood vessels in it . It is non cancerous .

I would suggest you to consult dermatologist for proper diagnosis and to rule out other conditions like angioendothelioma . Doctor diagnose it by physical appearence or may order biopsy .

Small granuloma heal on their own or sometimes reoccur again . But there are other options available for bigger ones like surgery , electrocautery or laser.

Bleeding can be stop by applying silver nitrate and corticosteroid ointment can also be used for its treatment.

Hope your concern has been resolved.
