What Causes Tinnitus Long After Artificial Incus Bone And Eardrum Put In My Left Ear?

I have been experiencing constant sounds in my ears. It s similiar to being in a forest at night and hearing all the night sounds. Some of it is high pitched and some are low but it all merges together and it never stops. It has been going on for a little over a week and is beginning to drive me crazy. Any idea what could be causing this? Back in the early 80 s I had an arificial Incus put in my left ear as well as an artificial eardrum since I had neither one and could not hear out of that ear. I have not had any problems with that in all these ears. I listen to my TV using earphones since I live in an apartment with thin walls. Maybe that could be causing my problems. However, I still hear the sounds whether I m listening to the TV or being entirely quiet. It doesn t make sense to me.

Hello,

Ringing in ears can occur due to causes like ear infection, perforated eardrum, excess ear wax accumulation, Eustachian tube dysfunction, Meniere's disease, TMJ (Temporomandibular joint) disorders, Acoustic Neuroma etcetera.

You should get your ear checked as you should get your artificial ear drum and incus checked for any problems.

I would suggest you to consult an Otolaryngologist and get evaluated and a thorough clinical evaluation and investigations like Audiometry, x-ray MRI can help in diagnosis and treatment can be done accordingly.

Treatment of underlying cause can help in reducing the ringing sounds as ringing are a symptom and not a disease.

In case if ringing does not resolve, then you can be advised medicines like Tricyclic Anti-depressant like Amitriptyline, anti-anxiety like Alprazolam, as well as Multivitamin supplements can be advised.

White noise devices can be advised. You can also be advised Neuromodulation. Avoid exposure to very loud sounds and also avoid diving, swimming etcetera.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Honey Arora
