What Causes Tinnitus While Suffering From Cough?

I have all the symptoms for the flu except a cough. I have tinnitis in my ears, I have had this since the late 90 s and also had my stapies replaced in my left ear and have been experiencing more ringing of my ear and not sure if this is just symptoms of my ear or the flu. I m scheduling an appt with ENT, but won t be able to get in for a few weeks. How do I know if this is flu or from tinnitis?

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Tinnitus may be due to cold with middle ear infection or eustachian tube blockage or age related sensile nerve weakness or tumor compression or raised ICT or drugs, etcetera.

Until examination is done, it is difficult to say what it is. Use water vapour inhalation and salt water gargling. Tablet Vertin needs to be taken but consult your physician for prescription.

If symptoms do not improve, please consult your doctor who will examine and treat you accordingly.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Penchila Prasad Kandikattu
