What Causes Tinnitus While On Bupropion, Gabapentin And Ativan?

Hello I am 75 year old female in good health for the most part. I am currently taking Bupropion Xl Gabapentin 300MG and Ativan for anxiety. I have developed ringing/hissing in my right ear and I have a need to take a deep breath or yawn every 5 or 6 minutes. Could one of these drugs be giving me those side affects. My doctors keep telling me it is from anxiety, however It starts off very mild and as the day goes on it gets worse and worse. I am not totally convinced it is from anxiety. I do deep breathing through my nose and exhale through my mouth and that does not seem to help. What is your opinion

Cardiologist 's  Response
Hello,

Regarding your concern, I would explain that your symptoms do not seem to be related to your current therapy adverse effects.

Tinnitus could be related to an inner ear disorder. For this reason, I recommend consulting first with an ENT specialist in order to exclude this possibility.

I would also recommend checking thyroid hormone levels for possible thyroid gland dysfunction.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr. Ilir Sharka, Cardiologist
