What Causes Tingling And Burning Sensation In Ball Of Foot After A Foot Injury?

Around New years I injured my foot running for a bus. At the moment of injury I felt a crushing feeling in the ball of my foot, as if I ran onto a rock. I have tingling and burning in the ball of foot radiating to my toes, especially my big toe and second toe. Direct pressure causes a feeling of numbness and stepping on pins and needles. I did foolishly go to work a few days after the doctor put me in a boot. My job requires standing eight hours a day. I took a month off, because I could not bear any weight on my foot. I was put in a soft cast for two weeks, which helped very little. I stayed in a walking boot for the total of a month: no help at all. I was given a cortisone shot, which was ineffective. I was prescribed a short regiment of a steroid, which not very effective either. Over that time, I was able to go back to work because I was able stand up more little by little, but the pain and stiffness persisted. I was given an extra day off which helped more the medicine. The stiffness and pain is less but still there. MRI reveled no stress fractures, neuroma, or capsulitis, but some bursitis and some issue with the plantar plate. It has been a few months why does the pain still persist?
