What Causes Tight Sensation Around The Chest And Upper Abdomen?

Yes, I have a general question. I just returned from a vacation where I did a lot of walking. I can walk for miles on a flat surface with no shortness of breathe but when I had to climb a 2 story series of steps I would get very winded and felt this tightness around my lateral chest/upper middle stomach. I am about 50 pounds overweight and do not exercise regularly. My blood pressure is typically around 120/80 and my cholesterol and triglyceride levels are all good. Am I just out of shape or should I be seen by a doctor?

Hello,

The reason one feels out of breath while walking on an incline is there is an additional need for extra oxygen. Because of being overweight by 50 pounds this problem is noticed only on an incline. My suggestion is there is no need to go to a doctor provided you decide on reducing the weight by at least 5% of present weight.

Plus every day practice walking on an inclined road so that your capability improves. A better cardiorespiratory ratio will overcome the difficulty. Your BP is normal and lipids are also normal. So a regular exercise schedule to reduce weight should do wonders.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
