What Causes Throat Dryness And Difficulty In Swallowing Food?

Hi,I noticed sometimes I have problems eating some foods and I need water to get it through. My throat closes up. This morning it happened when I was eating a turkey (supposed to be organic, lunch meat thickness) with mayonnaise on bread. After a couple bites, throat started closing. continued to finish the sandwich, drinking water with it.It has happened in the past with a McChicken sandwich from McDs. Mom had allergy to nitrates. I sometimes have to drink water with hotdogs (in a roll). Any thoughts I should consider? Thanks.

Hi Dear ,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern. As per your query you have symptoms of throat dryness and difficulty in swallowing food which seems to be due to bacterial infection and upper respiratory tract infection.

Need not to worry. I would suggest you to

- avoid eating spicy and heavy food specially at night.

- take light walk after every meal.

- take antacid after every meal and eat at least one hour before going to sleep.

- for now do warm saline gargles and maintain oral hygiene.

Consult ENT specialist once and get complete examination done and start treatment accordingly. You should get throat swab test done.

Hope your concern has been resolved.

Get Well Soon.

Best Wishes,
Dr. Harry Maheshwari
