Hello Clare!
I read carefully your query.
The way you describe it seems to be an urinary infection and probably a kidney stone.
Pain in your lower back, that hurts when you moves, with frequent urination and pain during fit perfectly with this diagnosis.
To confirm this diagnosis you need to do an urinalysis and an abdominal ultrasound.
I suggest to consult a physician and get examined.
This infection is treated with antibiotics.
meanwhile you should drink plenty of fluids. You can take Ibuprofen and Buscopan to relief your pain.
Bath in warm water and warm compresses in your lower back can help.

Hope my answer has helped.
Take care.
