What Causes The Fluttery Feeling In The Chest?

Just recently, I started getting this flutter in my chest. It will happen maybe once or twice a week and it feels like theres a butterfly in my chest flying around. I can t tell if it s my heart or upper airway. It creates this feeling in my throat that I have to cough. This all happens in about 5 seconds and then its gone. i was adopted so i don t know if this is due to a family history of heart problems. I am only 20 years old.

Thanks for your question on HCM.
Fluttering feeling in chest represents mostly palpitations.
So we need to rule out cardiac cause first, as in young persons arrhythmia s are more common.
So get done ECG first. If this is normal go for holter monitoring (continuous recording of ECG). If this is also normal than no need to worry for heart disease.
Other causes for palpitations are
1. Anemia
2. Thyroid problems
3. Stress amd anxiety.
So better to get done CBC to rule out abemiat.
Get done thyroid level to rule out thyroid related problems.
If all of the above are normal, than no need to worry much. . Anxiety may be the cause.
