What Causes The Feeling Of Food Stuck In Throat?

Hello I really need your help. today while I was eating chicken and I felt like up a part of food went in my airway or my my throat. I kept coughing and coughing an and felt really bad and every time I inhaled I felt like there was a blockage but then eventually after coughing several times and even trying to regurgitate to see if I could remove the piece of the particle of food that was in my throat or airway nothing came out so I still feel that my theres something there so should I worry? should I go to the hospital what should I do? I can breathe without any problems. Please advise

General & Family Physician 's  Response
HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

The coughing impulse helps to remove any food that may accidentally enter the wrong passage way.

If there is difficulty with swallowing then you should be reviewed.

Since you can breathe ok and if there is no difficulty swallowing then you do not need to see a doctor right away. The lingering discomfort is likely due to irritation of the throat and esophagus.
You would need to avoid hot/ spicy or hard foods for a few days.

Use of an anti inflammatory pain killer would help eg ibuprofen, cataflam, naproxen

I hope this helps
