What Causes Tenderness Under The Tongue And Throat?

Just went to dr today. For 3 days the side of my throat is tender and under my tongue is tender. Ringing of ears and a sore ear. The dr gave me steriods and amoxilin but doesnt know what it is. She did say there was a spot under my tongue in the back but all blood work including white blood cell counts came back normal. What could it be?

Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern. As per your query you have symptoms of tenderness under the tongue and throat which seems to be due to bacterial infection which can affect any of soft tissues inside your mouth and it could be due to respiratory tract infection, canker sores, and cuts from sharp foods. Need not to worry. I would suggest you to

- Maintain complete oral hygiene by brushing and flossing.
- Do rinses with antiseptic mouthwash such as colgate proxy.
- Drink plenty of fluids.
- Take diet rich in vitamin C and multivitamins.

If symptoms keeps on persisting visit oral physician once and get it examined and go for thorough examination and start treatment accordingly. Normally your symptoms will resolve in 10 days. Doctor may prescribe you antibiotics combination along with antiinflammatory medications.

Hope your concern has been resolved.

Get well Soon.

Best Wishes,
Dr. Harry Maheshwari
