What Causes Tailbone Pain After Sitting For A Prolonged Period?

I have severe pain in my tailbone after sitting for more than 5 minutes. this started in September after I had to sit in a hard chair for over three hours in a doctors office. Walking and standing do not bother me. I bought a donut to sit on and it helps somewhat but the pain is getting worse. any ideas? Thanks for your time. Eddie
