What Causes Tailbone Area Pain?

I have a pain in my tailbone area. It doesn t hurt when I walk/run but it will hurt after sitting on it for maybe five minutes, sometimes more and sometimes less. I think I got the pain from this: I m kinda a nervous person or whatever but sometimes when I m in public and I have to go to the bathroom (#2) I hold it in. I don t know how to really explain it but I d say I flex my butt together to hold it in. I forgot to mention it doesn t hurt if I sit a certain way. Like with one leg under my butt like it s supporting it. My dad and I think it may be a hernia or a bruised tailbone. What do you think it is?

Physical Therapist or Physiotherapist 's  Response
Hi! I understood your problem. You are suffering from condition called as coccydynia. Don't worry and keep patience, this pain takes time to be cured.
First go for conservative treatment which includes
1. Sit in a hot water tub for 15 minutes .
I have seen my patients improving by taking ultrasonic therapy and shortwave diathermy for 10 days ,followed by some specific exercise known as kegel's exercise, which you can discuss with your physiotherapist .
2. use coccyx seat easily available in medical stores , this is to relieve pressure from tail bone.
Good Luck!
