What Causes Symptoms Of EPI Post Colon Surgery?

Hi, my name is Jason and I m a 62 year old type 1 diabetic. I was diagnosed at the Eisenhower medical centre in Palm Desert when I was 27. I have been having the symptoms of EPI for several years but I don t believe I ve ever been tested for it. I ve been mostly healthy although I did have colon surgery to remove some malignant tumors 8 years ago. I have had chronic diarrhea before and after the surgery. Do you think this could be exocrine pancreatic insufficiency?

Hello,

Exocrine pancreatic insufficiency may be seen in acute pancreatitis, chronic pancreatitis, auto immune pancreatitis, diabetes, surgery, cystic fibrosis, Celiac disease, inflammatory bowel problems or Zollinger Ellison's syndrome etcetera.

Post colon surgery probably may not cause your problem. Until examination is done, it is difficult to say what it is. Please consult your surgeon, he will examine and treat you accordingly.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Penchila Prasad Kandikattu
