Hello,

If you have not hurt your toe and there is no ingrown toenail, it could be due to infection (abscess), diabetes, arthritis, gout or fracture. You are suggested to get clinically examined by a GP or in ER. If there is infection you will need a course of oral antibiotics like a combination of amoxycillin and cloxacillin.

Take pain relievers like Naproxen or combiflam, one SOS when pain. Keep the wound clean. Avoid walking, keep the toe at rest. Get an X-ray done to rule out fracture. Get blood tests done to detect OA, RA, gout and blood sugar. If diabetic keep your blood glucose under control at all cost. You can apply ointment or gel Thrombophob on the affected area 2-3 times a day to clear away any blood clots and reduce the swelling.

Keep your foot raised, apply ice or cold compression for relieve & take rest. If an abscess has formed then the treating doctor may need to drain it. Get treated at the earliest.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
